Also known as the Sonar Quila or "Golden Fort", this UNESCO World Heritage Site was built in 1156 AD by Rawal Jaisal. Rising majestically from the Thar Desert on Trikuta Hill, it is one of the few "living forts" in the world, with thousands of residents still occupying its ancient sandstone streets alongside havelis, temples, and palaces.

Built in the 14th century by Maharawal Gadsi Singh, this artificial rainwater lake was once the city's main water source. Today it's a peaceful spot lined with ghats, small temples, and shrines, best enjoyed with a boat ride at sunset while catching sight of migratory birds in the winter months.

This striking 18th-century mansion once belonged to Salim Singh, a former Prime Minister of Jaisalmer. It's instantly recognizable by its distinctive arched roof carved to resemble a peacock, and its upper section that flares outward like the stern of a ship — a masterpiece of intricate stone carving.

A garden complex on the outskirts of the city housing the golden-domed cenotaphs (chhatris) of Jaisalmer's former rulers. Set against a working oasis and dotted with wind turbines in the distance, it's one of the most photographed sunset spots in the region.

Located near the India-Pakistan border, this memorial marks the site of the legendary Battle of Longewala fought during the 1971 Indo-Pak war. The on-site museum displays captured tanks, aircraft wreckage, and memorabilia commemorating the Indian Army's historic victory.

Roughly 40 km from Jaisalmer, the golden dunes of Sam are the region's most iconic desert landscape. A favourite for camel safaris, jeep rides, desert camping under the stars, and watching the sun set over the endless waves of sand in the Thar Desert.

An abandoned village shrouded in mystery, local legend says its Paliwal Brahmin residents vanished overnight nearly 200 years ago, cursing the land as they left. Now a protected heritage site, the eerily silent ruins draw curious travellers intrigued by its haunted reputation.
